” THE UNCONSCIOUS IS STRUCTURED’ LIKE A LANGUAGE “
PSYCHIC STRUCTURES AND LANGUAGE OF PSYCHOANALYSIS
Argument
________________
What is a structure?
A structure, in general, is the singular way in which something is constructed. The word structure comes from the Latin verb pile which means to superimpose, assemble several layers. Therefore pile means to connect, build, put together. For linguistics, to build is the way in which the parts of a poem are placed, of a speech, of a verse, in one word. And for psychic phenomena, what about?
It is customary in psychoanalysis to consider that the psychic structure of the individual is constructed by successive layers., stacking on top of each other : stade oral, stade anal, phallic stage, autoerotic stage, genital stage, etc.
Psychoanalysts, to orient themselves in their own work, distinguish three structures: neurosis, Psychosis, and perversion. The delimitation of these structures is necessary for them to determine what is called conduct of the treatment, but also transfer handling. As such, these structures are essential tools, as a reference for the analytical clinic.
For Lacan, the language, the words, and the speech, are meaningful structures. Language provides structuring mechanisms, while speech and discourse embody the explicit support of human exchanges, and thus trigger the communication functions.
Furthermore, Lacan adopted the notion of discourse to designate the social bond, that is to say the organization of exchanges between human subjects. Discourses articulate various models of signifying structures, that can be identified.
The rules which structure the unconscious are those which structure language: metaphor and metonymy are the two essential structuring laws of language which govern the unconscious through the double play of combination and substitution. The unconscious manifests itself by the emergence of elements in a sentence, whose meaning is accessible to deciphering, by the interpretation which aims at the signifier.
Corpo Freudiano Paris offers a series of meetings around the enigmatic Lacanian affirmation : “The unconscious is structured like a language”. During these meetings each of us will be invited to express ourselves. Starting from the Freudian and Lacanian theory of psychic structures, through listening to one's own words and that of other participants, we want to bring out something from the knowledge of the unconscious.

Sunday 8 February 2026
De 14h30 à 17h00 – Mauro MENDES DIAS (VOX Institute of Sao Paulo) :
« La psychose et la réinvention de la clinique psychanalytique »
Lieu – THE WIND RISES Theater – 181 Avenue Jean Jaurès – 75019 PARIS (The zoom link will be sent to registrants the day before).
Argument :
of paranoia.
La réinvention par Lacan de la présentation des malades, à la lumière de la tradition
psychiatrique, introduit d’autres éléments dans la clinique du psychanalyste, qui doivent être
clarifiés.

14h30 – Concept laboratory :“The original repression”
From 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – CONFERENCE de Mario Eduardo COSTA PEREIRA (Freudian Body São Paulo) : “Historical and logical-conceptual foundations of the notion of “clinical structures” introduced by Lacan”
From 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. – Debate
Lieu – THE WIND RISES Theater – 181 Avenue Jean Jaurès – 75019 PARIS (The zoom link will be sent to registrants the day before).
ARGUMENT:
Aat the beginning of the years 1950, Lacan proposes a “return to Freud” in order to overcome
The sterilizing distance that psychoanalysis had taken with regard to clinical originality
and ethical radicalism established by its founder.
To carry out this project, it is not just a question of restoring the discovery
Freudian, but also to correct certain inconsistencies : traces of physicalism
from the 19th century, the ambiguity of the boundaries between psychoanalysis and natural sciences, or
still the difficulties in demonstrating the conditions of validity and the universal scope of the
Oedipus complex faced with the contributions of the anthropology of his time.
In this context, Lacan relies on conceptual tools from cybernetics
nascent, linguistics and structural anthropology, who promised
human sciences a new logical rigor.
The concept of “structure” thus becomes a decisive instrument : it replaces the quest for
meaning through the analysis of form and system, substituting for interpretation
hermeneutics the precision of logical formalism.
This communication aims to present the rational foundations of one of the most important achievements
most fruitful of the “return to Freud” : the distinction of clinical structures.
We will examine the lines of theoretical tension which lead Lacan to define
strictly neurosis, psychosis and perversion, from their relationship to language,
their effects on the body and their impact on the subject’s modes of existence
in the social bond.
To conclude, we will analyze the factors which led Lacan to reformulate
Later his structural thinking in terms of knot and braid theory,
in the last part of his teaching.

________________
From the creation of psychoanalysis, the relationships she maintained with the main achievements of psychiatric knowledge were constant. There are two aspects of the current relationship between these two disciplines which, in my opinion, turn out to be quite significant, even surprising. First, it is mainly psychoanalysts from the Lacanian movement who today defend the constant reference to the classical psychiatric tradition, whose clinic made it possible to gradually establish, based on the long experience that psychiatrists have acquired with their patients, various clinical pictures on which psychoanalysis has constructed its main hypotheses.
It is interesting to emphasize that the fact that Lacan followed medical training in psychiatry, while Freud was a neurologist, contributed greatly to it. Then, it seems that current psychiatry accomplishes the supreme objective of classical psychiatry - to associate the various essentially organic disorders with mental alterations and, de là, define treatment protocols based solely on ever-increasing advances in pharmacology.

“The influence of cybernetics in Lacan’s thought”

ARGUMENT:
From the end of the years 1940, Lacan discovers a new scientific approach which
would revolutionize modern knowledge and leave a lasting mark on his own thinking. : the
cybernetics. Preceding structuralist rationality, she gives it back in some way
the possible emergence.
Yet, this major influence remains little explored by
Lacanian-oriented psychoanalysts.
The objective of this intervention is to retrace Lacan’s decisive encounter with the
cyberneticians, especially with Roman Jakobson, speaker in the famous
Conferences Macy (New York, 1946–1953).
We will offer a reading of Seminar II, often referred to as his “seminar
cybernetics", in order to identify the marks of this science of communication and
control in the constitution of Lacanian discourse.
This course will allow us to understand how cybernetics has contributed to
formalize the Lacanian conception of the subject, of the language and the very structure of
the unconscious.
